Non-stop demands, hectic schedule and endless goals to be accomplished often force us to cut corners and take shortcuts that affect our physical, mental and spiritual health in the long run.

That’s why it is important to crave out some time at least once a year to rest, renew and recharge our energies and bring our body, mind and soul into alignment.

This endeavor can take the form of an out-of-town retreat, time spent alone at home away from work and other distractions, or even a year-end ritual that involves the whole family.

Whichever form you choose, here are 45 ideas to inspire your next renewal plan and lay the ground for your next level of growth.

Cleanse Your Body

  1. Eat only when you’re hungry.

  2. Drink generous amount of clean, filtered water throughout the day even when you think you’re not thirsty.

  3. Allow only whole or minimally processed foods to pass through your mouth. Go organic whenever possible.

  4. Eat without using the TV, computer, mobile phone or any device.

  5. Go on a water/juice fast.

  6. Ingest only foods you’ve put together in your own kitchen.

  7. Insist that each meal must make up of five different colors of food.

  8. Abstain from alcohol, cigarettes and junk foods.

  9. Repay your sleep debt.

  10. Take a half-hour nap in the afternoons.

  13. Appreciate your inner, as well as outer, beauties.

  14. Face and accept your flaws and shortcomings.

  15. Participate passionately in your favorite social activity.

Revitalize Your Spirit

  1. Go on a thought fast and focus your mind, body and spirit on the present.

  2. Do something useful for someone you do not know and don’t get caught.

  3. Pour out your soul to Jesus, Buddha, Shiva or someone you trust without reservation.

  4. Make amends for the things you’ve done in the past and resolve not to commit them again.

  5. Write down your wrongdoings on paper and then set it aflame together with your guilt.

  6. Sign yourself up for a silent retreat.

  7. Increase the time of your daily meditation practice by 100%.

  8. Read sacred text from a religion different from yours. Some examples are Teachings of the Buddha, The Bhagavad Gita, Tao Te Ching, The Koran and The Holy Bible.

  9. Forgive someone even if you think your feelings are justified.

  10. Reconcile with an estranged family member or friend.

  11. Give your time, money or knowledge without wishing for anything in return.
