Do you spring out of bed the moment you open your eyes in the morning? Or do you slump back to sleep till the very last minute?

Starting next morning, lie in bed for a couple of minutes more and do this simple morning ritual to start off your day on a higher and brighter note:

1. Scan Your Body

  • Increase your body awareness by doing a body scan every morning. In the course of our busy day, we tend to neglect subtle signals given by the body for areas that require our attention and care. These signals are usually early symptoms of disease or illness which when given due attention will be less likely to develop into life-threatening condition.

To do a body scan, start from your crown, and take note of any discomfort, tingling, numbness, heaviness, or pain. Slowly progress to your throat, shoulders, hands, lungs, lower abdomen, thighs, calves and lastly your feet.

If a particular spot feels unusual, don’t panic. Just gently rest your attention on it and stay with it. Tell yourself, “I release this tension, pain or discomfort inside me” and let it go away by itself.

However, if the discomfort persists for a number of days, or increases in intensity at the same spot, seek medical advice from your family physician.

2. Go Through Your Self-Affirmations

  • When you first wake up, your mind is fresh like a blank canvas, waiting to be painted. This is the best opportunity for you to suggest positive affirmations and replace self-defeating thoughts.

You can also reaffirm any goals you have set for yourself to help you better focus on your plans and stay on track for the rest of the day.

If you need inspirations, check out these self-affirmations:

    • I am glowing with good health and vitality.

    • I choose peace and love instead of anger and resentment.

    • I always have enough money for all that I need.

    • I am at one with the universe.

    • I will enjoy this day no matter what happen.

    • I forgive those who have hurt me and release myself from hatred.

    • I love and care for my body regardless of how it looks.

    • I can always express my thoughts and ideas clearly and creatively.

    • I rule money; money doesn’t rule me.

    • I am appreciated and well compensated for the work that I do.

3. Count Your Blessings

  • Your attitude in the morning will determine the experiences you are going to have for the day. Feeling grouchy? Then you are most likely going to stay cranky and make mountains out of molehills for the rest of the day.

But begin the day with gratitude, and you immediately transform your predisposition to that of patience, humility and service to others.

Gratitude becomes even more important when you are going through difficult times, as it will widen your outlook and put things in perspective.

So make a mental list of the things you are grateful for, including the food you are eating and the clothes you are wearing. There are still many people in this time and age who do not have access to these basic necessities. And be thankful that you have another brand new day to begin with!
