Thanks for sharing your experience and tips, Eliya. I don't rule out medications completely though. They can be a life-saver for people who are in the midst of a major anxiety attack, depression or other psychiatric syndromes.

But the problem starts when people become over reliant on them and use them even when they are feeling okay, hoping that drugs will help them to stay well. They fail to seek other means to address their problems that have lesser or no side effects and that are more long-lasting.

Kudos to any suggestions that do NOT include medicating yourself.
When anxiety hits, it's difficult to think of all the options we have before us.
What helps me , as a first step, is turning to the Universal Energy and asking to "take it all from me".I don't want to feel alone right then and there.
That usually put me in a calmer place and then I can refer to all or any of the steps in the above post.

Thank you for your comment, Sue! I hope you'll find some of the strategies in this article helpful. It's important to believe that "this too will pass" just like everything else, good or bad. Meanwhile, be easy on yourself during this difficult period. Cut down the non-essentials stuff and try not to demand too much on yourself or others. Find support from sources that work for you: family, friends, music, exercise, hobbies, outdoor activities, etc. I wish you all the best, Sue!

Wow...Thank you for writing this article. I love how you break it down and response to Lauren.
The past few days I could not sleep because I am just like you. I worry too much. I keep thinking about my past and wonder what's going to happen to my future. This scary feeling just creeps on me.

Thanks for taking the time to pen such encouraging words, Lauren. Words from readers like you are the motivating force that keeps me writing. :)

I hope some of the suggestions on this list will be a good complement to your CBT. Anxiety is not an easy emotion to deal with. I know it because I was enslaved by anxiety in the past. Though I still feel anxious sometimes, I can now manage it much better. For me, my anxiety often comes from over worrying. Worrying about what has happened in the past and what will happen in the future were enough to freak me out then. But later, I realized no one, including myself, has control over the past and the future. So, why worry and make myself miserable? Nowadays, I remind myself to let go more and be less attached to results. I try to stay in the present as much as I can and do the things that need to be done now instead of wasting time and energies worrying. I believe you'll be able to come to terms with your anxiety too. You may also want to check out the article on Living at Peace with Your Emotions to gain a better understanding of the role of emotions and how you can live in peace with them.

Lastly, do feel free to let me know if there are topics which you like to see covered but can't be found on this site. I wish you all the best!

Thank you so much for this. I have suffered from anxiety for years, and I am currently undergoing CBT. I really liked your list and just your general view on life. You are very uplifting! Thank you! :)
